10 November 2001 is the earliest known recording of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant on Xfm following their return to the station after the Capital Group takeover. The recording is incomplete, accounting for just 20 minutes of the 2 hour show. The series began several weeks before this episode, with some remembering the 06 October 2001 episode because producer Karl Pilkington forgot to turn the microphones on.

Track Listing

1. Fly and Dope (h:mm:ss)

Ricky and Steve start the show with a hi-5.

2. Ricky's Film Review (0:00:33)

Ricky continues to review the latest films with The Jungle Book (1968). He gives it "9 out of 5".
Song For The Lovers: The Smiths - Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me (00:02:14)

3. Lonely Steve (0:02:27)

Steve gets jealous when he overhears a tramp talking about his girlfriend. But things become more embittered when Steve asks about Karl's relationship and Karl gets defensive.

4. Schindler's Lifts (0:06:12)

Ricky is impressed with the noise the microphone spring makes, while photographers for X-Ray magazine take pictures in the studio. Steve sets a competition for tickets for The Fall at Kentish Town Forum tonight. Steve wonders if Schindler's Lifts has anything to do with Oscar Schindler.

5. Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show Ad (0:10:03)

...Ben Elton appeared to have overdowsed on the arsehole tablets that morning.

6. Polaroids (0:10:39)

Ricky and Steve look at the photographer's test snaps and are forced to contemplate the reality of their looks. Ricky confesses he was mistaken for Johnny Vegas earlier. Ricky then wonders if Armitage Shanks should be investigated by the Monopoly and Mergers Commission.

7. Criticizing Steve (0:12:59)

Ricky says he likes U2. Steve finishes The Fall tickets competition. Steve says Noel Edmonds is utterly doomed, while Ricky thinks he's going to make a big comeback... Ricky then wonders why the show has gone so bad. Steve says it's because Ricky and Karl keep having a go at him, but Ricky says that his and Karl's criticism is constructive.

8. I Love The First Hour (0:15:47)

Ricky and Steve further lament the decline of the show since it began all those minutes ago.
Hip-Hop Hooray: Ice Cube - Today Was a Good Day (0:16:50)

9. Saturday Night Steve (0:17:24)

Steve gets excited about later, when he will be drinking weak lager at home and will probably masturbate twice before going to bed alone.

Quotes

Ricky: You sort of look normal but I wouldn't really want to wind you up to the point of frenzy. (0:04:32)

Karl: I was walking home the other night, and I was thinking about it, and do you worry that when you're old you will be on your own?
Steve: Well, Karl, I'm glad you've brought this up, because for me, I mean, a lightweight frothy entertainment show, on Xfm, on a Saturday afternoon, is exactly the place where I want to discuss the desperate lonely future that's inevitably coming my way. (0:05:33)

Trivia

  • Karl mentions that he's been seeing Suzanne for seven years. (0:04:16)
