A series of three films based on the popular books by J.R.R Tolkien, who politely declined a request to write the scripts for the films. Despite [[Ricky Gervais]] and [[Stephen Merchant]] seeming oblivious to the series' appeal, the films broke all sorts of records and became a massive crossover hit whilst retaining its core audience of geeks.
