EastEnders is a popular BBC television soap opera, first broadcast on 19 February 1985. It is one of the UK's highest-rated programmes, often appearing near or at the top of the week's Broadcaster's Audience Research Board (BARB) ratings.
Karl once mentioned a programme he'd seen about autism, including a boy who could remember everything about EastEnders from the first episode he'd watched. Karl claimed this was a superpower, rather than a disability. However, he argued that the boy should have memorised an encyclopaedia instead, and should have been kept away from EastEnders.
Extras' star Shaun Williamson played Barry in EastEnders for ten years and his character in Extras is based on the premise that he's been a complete failure since leaving the soap.
Extras guest star Ross Kemp also appeared in the show for many years.
