==Latest Effort - early September==
just wanted to say to the editors: nice work lately, gentlemen.  hearing a bit of new karl is always a good boost for morale innit.  i love what you're doing so thanks for all the work.  it is not unnoticed!  [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 22:34, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

==References==
I'm no expert when it comes to MediaWiki and I've harped about this for sometime now, but I think using <ref> tags would dramatically help people find shows and it would add validity to the wiki. Apparently, on the MediaWiki website there is an extension that would make referencing material easy by use of these <ref> tags. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite/Cite.php The directions go a bit beyond my scope of knowledge, it's a bit behind the scenes, but I highly recommend we use it.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 13:44, 24 August 2007 (EDT)
:KA, can you give me/us an example of this.  i'm not really sure what it is, to be honest.  when do you use them and how does it help? [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 20:34, 24 August 2007 (EDT)
::Here's my pitch. Currently, our wiki has no references what so ever. This increases the difficulty in finding shows that articles refer to. Example, our [[Karl Pilkington]] article is full of anecdotes and stories. If you want to know where they come from, you have to do some further digging/post something on the-which-show-is-that-in thread. With references, there'd be an instantaneous source. Let's look at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Pilkington Karl Pilkington] article on wikipedia. If you hit the little [6], it'll take you to where the source is. The reference can be any text too. So, in wiki mark up they did this:
::*<nowiki>According to Pilkington, his first name was chosen as a result of his mother dreaming she had pneumonia and being assured of her survival by a doctor whose name-tag read "Karl".<ref>Pilkington, K. (Producer) & Merchant, S., Gervais, R. (Presenters). (2003, December 7th)</ref></nowiki>
::(note that <nowiki></nowiki> is just HTML for superscript). In the notes section they just put this little tag:
::*<nowiki><references /></nowiki>
::and presto, they are all there. It appears simply uploading the .php and following the directions should take care of it, but again, I don't know all the ins and outs- it just seems like it'd be a good addition and real simple just using <ref></ref> and <references />.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 21:28, 24 August 2007 (EDT)
== A few ideas ==
*An article about the "hate list". Who's on it, who was "nominated for it", and how it came about. And a link to the episode.
*A list of all of Karl's puns. (It's not his volt, I'm kermited to this treatment) Inspired by "[[Acid I Would Sort You Some Science Out]]"<br>
I may get to these eventually (esp if I can find the shows), but I thought I'd throw it out there first.
== The Office ==
[[The Office]] mainly needs actor and character details. I think actor details can be copied from Wikipedia and chopped down a bit (I did that with [[Mackenzie Crook]], see if it works or not) and character details can be a paragraph or two. I think The U.S Office should be the next Article Attack rather than included in this one, as it's a big job. Also, the toolbox for The Office needs changing as it's "Clark" not "Clarke" in Jennifer Taylor Clark. I created a page for "Clark" and linked to it from [[The Office]]. Smuggling Seaweed.
hi gang .... this is a good start for the office characters.  smuggling seaweed's page for mackenzie far exceeds all the others -- should we try to be more like that instead for each one?  also i think bender32 did well to pick out the most important characters to make new pages for.  to me, we shouldn't spend our time on pages for the others but should "un-red" their names.  our time is better spent working on other things.  IMO.  and yours then? [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 19:19, 19 July 2007 (EDT)
PS. i think it IS clarke, with an e. [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 19:19, 19 July 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, I don't think we need a page for "Ben" or "Trudy" for instance. If they need to be mentioned (like the Welsh woman who Brent says "you've let yourself go" to) then they could be mentioned as part of other characters' articles. SmugglingSeaweed.
:How about having a page of "minor characters in the office" with headings for bookmark hyperlinks? (Or is that what you meant?)[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]]
So are we just going to copy the info on other sites and paste it here? I think it will be a lot easier. But i think in the rules it says otherwise, I mean I don't want to be "square" or anything...--[[User:Thelicdrummer|Thelicdrummer]] 00:17, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
Knockin About - I like that idea. That wasn't what I meant but that's a better plan. I'll make the page and outline it.
Thelicdrummer - I copied the actor details for Mackenzie Crook from wikipedia and edited it a bit to make it shorter. I think copying actor details is alright, but character details should be written by us. When we get round to doing the episode guide/recap, I think we should copy the ones from the bbc website and edit them a bit, to make them shorter and more informal. ==Willing Transcribers==
If anyone wants to organize a transcript team with me that'd be coo. Preferably 4-6 people could be in on it and take on one episode at a time, divided into 10-15 minute chunks. Someone could also be in charge of formatting/spell checking/keeping things British (yogurt comes to mind). Just an idea. PM me or post here if your up for it. Maybe we can make a Babel thing that says "Transcriber" or sommat. [[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]]
re the 1st paragraph ... add your name below if you're willing to be part of knockinabout's transcriber team.  i'm willing to try --- i can't guarantee i'll stick with it forever, but i will give it a go! ~ joy

KnockinAbout (obviously)<br>
Gtpod (someone edited me out :P I'll do it by jingo!)<br>
Bender32 - now back from turkey
:Brilliant. We'll wait about a week then (see if a few more are willing) and then we'll try to take on an episode over the course of 3 days or so to give everyone ample time to do it.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 19:29, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
== Biography Infoboxes ==
I've been trying to set up biography infoboxes to use for all the people on interest on the Pilki. However, template for this doesn't seem to work. It works in the wikipedia sandbox, but here it generates a bunch of gobbledegook. Here's what I've been working with: [[Template:Infobox_biography]] (hit edit). I haven't found the help section much help at the moment.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 22:53, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
I think the only thing to do is make them from scratch. Wikipedia has such a deep-rooted system of confusion... I managed to copy one from elsewhere on Pilkipedia and edit it down to [[Template:Xfm_features|this]], I think it just needs some knowledge of HTML... something I sadly don't have; all I can do is butcher what other people do, not make something from scratch. If anyone could knock up a biography infobox, or even a tutorial/help page on making infoboxes, it'd be very much appreciated. --[[User:Gtpod|Gtpod]] 13:13, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
ArtVandelay13 makes them ... he did the one we use for the Steve Shows.  I'll ask if he'll help .. [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 18:10, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
I see now. Thanks for the link and tip Gt, I'll fire up the ol' Frontpage and have another crack at it.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 18:15, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
== References ==
I've also been having difficulty with references. Again, on wikipedia, its simple - all you have to do is use<nowiki><ref></ref> tags and have a <references/> tag</nowiki> at the end. I can't get this to work here. Now I may just be a div and not able to figure this out, but it'd be nice to be able to it. So if someone could provide a link on how to do it or set up the framework for this simplistic "ref" approach, it would be nice (spent about 15 minutes trying to meself in vein). Is there a definitive source out there that explains references for a mediawiki site like this? Bit frustrating to want to do something and googling the answer leads to "wikipedia-only" dead ends.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 22:53, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
==YouTube Links==
Thought about this when I looked at the Rik Waller page. What if we had links to YouTube of clips from the show that give an example of the article topic. e.g. Rik Waller, clip of them taking the piss out of Rik Waller, White Van Karl, clip of a White Van Karl. I say YouTube because this is the only site that I can think of that will allow free streaming "audio". Obviously, the downside to this is pictures would be displayed instead of video. They could be stored on the the Pilkipedia YouTube account (if it exists yet). There are probably more pressing issues in Pilki (red links, general content), but I thought I'd get this idea off my chest before I forget.[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]]
== Useless pages? ==
These have always irked me on the wiki, pages that just aren't relevant... [[Bruiser]], [[1 Leicester Square]], [[EastEnders]]... [[Armitage Shanks]]?! So many things that just don't need to be here, and they're always either too short or copied from Wikipedia, neither options being terribly insightful. What do you all think we should do? Do you agree? Should the pages be deleted? Or just made more relevant to Xfm with more info about them? --[[User:Gtpod|Gtpod]] 13:06, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
i think this is a tough call.  it's a matter of deciding "what we want to be."  are we a catch-all for ANY piece of information that was ever mentioned on an Xfm show?  if so, then we should keep those, and probably somehow link them to where/when/why they were mentioned.  i'd be OK with that, but not just keeping them as they are.  armitage shanks without any explanation of why it is on pilkipedia is ridiculous.
on the other hand, i think GTp would like to nix them altogether, which i'd be open to as well.  would be interested in the other editors' input. [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 17:59, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
Like Joy wrote above, I say unless directly discussed on an XFM show or podcast etc it should go.
Examples: Celebrities mentioned on the Podcasts (like Karl's new planet people) can be here because little stubs can be written about them about who they are and when they were mentioned in the podcasts. Other random celebs remotely related should be axed. Russell Brand should stay because he was directly involved with Karl. 1 Leicester Square should be axed because it isn't Pilki related. Basically, unless there is something we have to add to the topic we should link these people, shows, places to Wikipedia and not bother with it ourselves.--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 18:13, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
Maybe they should be grouped though, rather than littering the site with stubs or lifted information, like "Celebrities mentioned in shows", "TV programmes mentioned in shows" etc. ? Original descriptions that otherwise would be stubs could be supplied. --[[User:Gtpod|Gtpod]] 19:10, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
:Good idea and concurred. Just have the search go to the heading if possible(though I have no idea how to do that..). Take any debatable ones on a case by case basis. (But who would want to stick up for Rik Waller anyway.)--[[User:Knockinabout|Knockinabout]] 20:12, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
==Editor List==
If you are an editor and your name is not on the "Meet the Editors" list, please add it.  I will try to as well.  [[User:Steve is King|Steve is King]] 13:44, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
