Porthmadog, pronounced "Port Maddock" and known locally as Port, is a small coastal town in the Dwyfor locality within Gwynedd in North Wales. It has a population of 4,187 and is a popular seaside resort for British holidaymakers.

On 09 February 2002 Karl said that he would frequently have caravaning holidays there for four weeks at a time while his dad worked in Wales. He attributes his lack of education to these trips, as his attendance at school was highly affected by this (although, of course, he won a certificate for attending a whole week one time).

Karl mentioned the town in an interview with The Independent, saying: "We went to a holiday camp called Greenacres in Porthmadog and I loved it – messing about on the beach and in arcades with some mates that I made down there. I went back fairly recently and it wasn't as good as I remembered."

The final episode of the first series of An Idiot Abroad featured Karl spending a night at Porthmadog in a caravan.
