The Pilkipedia uses a standard form of Wiki "markup", which allows you to use shortcuts to format text, rather than using HTML. See [[http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Editing_pages here]] for an overview, and links to more detail.

Editing

See the Help page for information on how to edit pages.

Names

When a person is first mentioned in an article, their full names should be used. Further mentions should be abbrivated to surname only.

Titles

All titles for books, TV shows, magazines, etc. should be italicized, e.g. The World of Karl Pilkington. On a wiki, this is done by surrounding the word with two single quotation marks. The only exception is in the page titles.

Page Titles

When creating a new page, please capitalize all words in the title, e.g. The World Of Karl Pilkington.

Creating Pages

As well as capitalizing all words in the title, make sure the page isn't orphaned. That is, check what other pages link to it. You can do this by clicking 'What Links Here' in the toolbox section to the right of page.

Quotes

Any quotes that are added should be done so with a source. Any quotes without a source will be deleted.

On Pilkipedia, when quoting people we use double quotation marks ("), and for quotes within quotes we use single quotation marks ('). For example, "I was was going to the toilet and the man said to me 'the systern's fucked' so I held it in."

Linking

When writing or editing a page, link everything than can be, or should be linked on the first appearance of a term. Do not link subsequent appearances of the term. Don't be shy in making links. That's the power of the wiki. If a link goes to a page that doesn't exist yet, don't deleted the link, build the page instead.

Dates

The format we've chosen to use is Day Month Year, e.g. 23 September 1972.
