The Holy Trinity is a shorthand way of referring to Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington, and was a term first coined by Merchant on the show dated 26 July 2003 which then became common phrasing used on the Forum, where it was lenghthened to "Holy Trinity of Comedy", and therefore abbreviated to "HTC".
