Spun off from Pilkington, Do We Need 'Em was a feature in which Karl asks an "expert" if we need a particular animal, like jellyfish, octopus, snail, etc. Ricky and Steve tell Karl that every animal has a knock-on effect, and all animals are needed in the ecosystem or because every animal is some other animal's food. This feature began as Pilkington, with the Parkinson theme tune, and with Karl interviewing someone who claimed to have been visited by a spirit, before being spun off into the more focused Do We Need 'Em?

Karl wound up the feature after a few weeks as he was convinced there was a conspiracy, and the scientific world were refusing to get rid of any species.

Although the feature has not returned, Karl's "Do we need 'em?" attitude has been a regular of the podcasts, with him bemoaning the excess of people, words, letters in the alphabet, fruit, etc...
