During the Xfm years, Karl made several attempts at jazzing up his Rockbusters feature by using sound effects as the clues which the listeners would need to piece together. During two consecutive weeks in Series 1, he used sound effects to make up song titles.

Karl later used a similar format in which listeners had to guess the title of a film based on sound effects he compiled. This feature was called That Film Sounds Good.
