Steve is synonymous with listeners for his futile attempts to impress the ladies, in particular during his youth.

One such hapless attempt to woo a lady occurred when the young Steve was appearing in a school play with a lady he had his bulging eyes on. He assumed that said lady would be attracted to man who seems intelligent, therefore Steve spent much of the free time during rehearsals reading the famous philosophical book 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' by Robert M. Pirsig. He sat waiting for an hour and a half, and when she eventually came into the room she was enquiring of the whereabouts of another youth, Martin Wells. Steve later found her getting off with Martin Wells as in the room next door, as Wells had been dancing around with no trousers on.
