Maggie the Magpie is one of Karl's pets he had as a child. Maggie was a wild magpie that Karl managed to "tame" and keep as his own. Maggie was often abusive toward Karl, pecking his head and popping the tyres on his Grifter. Karl's classmates from primary school still recall Karl having a magpie. Karl eventually had to give up Maggie, from which he assumed it died because it wouldn't be scared of humans anymore.
