Congress Tart

Congress tarts are small cakes similar to Bakewell tarts that consist of pastry filled with jam or cream. They are a personal favourite treat of Karl Pilkington, who once mentioned that he "can't get 'em in London", prompting Ricky to call out to anyone who can find a Congress tart for Karl in London to contact XFM immediately.

Congress Tarts were briefly mentioned when Karl was recounting the story of how a doctor once told Karl's mam that he was going to die. His consumption of "a couple of Congress tarts" on that occasion probably contributed to the terrible stomach ache that Karl experienced later that day, that caused his mam to ring the doctor.

On the Behind the Scenes feature for the An Idiot Abroad DVD, Karl explained that his secret code phrase if he were to be kidnapped would be Congress tart. This prompted Ricky to make Karl do a role-play in which he had to act out what he would do and say in a kidnap situation. It ended with Karl, playing the part of the kidnapper, saying "Take him! He's just shouting Congress tart!"
