A typical hospital radio studio

Hospital radio is a form of audio broadcasting produced specifically for the in-patients of hospitals, primarily found in the United Kingdom.

On the 23 February 2002 Xfm show, Karl Pilkington explained to Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant that hospital radio is actually where he got his start. When his father was in hospital for an operation, Karl got bored and wandered down the hall and found the hospital radio studio where he got a gig, which was the beginning of his career in the field.

Steve joked that Mr Pilkington tapped the nurse on the shoulder and told her to "get that twat off the air" (in reference to his "twat in the hat" comment from the Little Donkey story).
