Extras is a sitcom about background performers working on film & TV sets and theatre, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Ricky stars as wannabe actor Andy Millman who's only friend is scatty Maggie Ashley Jensen, with Steve as Millman's agent Darren Lamb. The series was filmed in a more traditional sitcom style than the mockumentary style than that of The Office. Extras was a BBC/HBO co-production which first aired on July 21, 2005 on BBC2 in the UK and premiered on September 25, 2005 on HBO in the United States The first series DVD was released in the UK on October 31, 2005. The second series is currently in pre-production.
