Jaffa Cakes Cure Cancer is a theory from Karl Pilkington

Origin

During the 09 February 2002 Xfm show, when Karl was still not a major part of the show (but was gaining popularity), Ricky became agitated when Karl was eating while he and Steve were talking. This reminded Ricky of something Karl had said earlier, when asked to repeat it Karl claimed that Jaffa Cakes (sponge biscuits with an orange jelly centre and milk chocolate coating) cure cancer. The cancer curing properties, Karl continued, are apparently in "the orange bit". Karl said he was taught this at school.

Effect

Karl was becoming more and more popular with time, and Ricky and Steve seemed to be more interested in him with every show. It was theories and comments such as this that enhanced his popularity.

Result

Unlike other theories such as "Gays Go Out Too Late" and "The Chinese Don't Age Well", which became almost like catchphrases for Karl and the show, the Jaffa cake story was never really repeated or mentioned again, despite Ricky and Steve being quite amused by it.
